STADIUM NOTES

VA Baseball Stadium Authority officials have offered to pay
for studies ordered by the FAA on a proposed Arlington County, VA
ballpark site near National Airport. In return for funding the
$75,000 study, though, the county must pay a $150,000 site
application fee which Arlington officials so far have refused
(WASHINGTON BUSINESS JOURNAL, 6/6). In wake of troubles locating
sites, VSA officials are considering new "more aggressive"
methods that would allow developers and landowners to bid
directly without early approval from local governments (RICHMOND
TIMES DISPATCH, 5/29)....The MI Supreme Court ordered the state
Court of Appeals to issue its decision on the Tiger Stadium Fan
Club appeal within 30 days of oral argument (DETROIT NEWS, 5/30).
If the city loses in appeal, Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer said
they will go to the MI Supreme Court (DETROIT NEWS, 5/31)....The
Greater Houston Partnership has endorsed a proposal to spend
$625M building sports facilities for the city's pro franchises
(HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 5/31).
