POLL SHOWS MAJORITY OF VOTERS OPPOSED TO TAX INCREASE

A recent poll of 297 Denver area voters reveals 67% of the
six-county metro area are opposed to a 0.1% sales tax boost to
assist the Broncos in building a proposed new $250M facility.
The poll was conducted by Talmey-Drake. That number is up 4%
from a similar survey conducted last December. There was a small
difference in the wording of the two questions as the December
question referred to "extending the 0.1 percent baseball stadium
tax," while the new poll calls it an "increase." Under the terms
of legislation passed by the CO Legislature early in May, an
election on the stadium tax would not likely be held until
November '97 (Fred Brown, DENVER POST, 5/30).
