SUPER BOWL ECONOMIC IMPACT ON ARIZONA HITS OVER $300M

Super Bowl XXX provided a $305.8M boost to Arizona's economy
in January, according to a new study by the Super Bowl XXX Host
Committee noted in today's ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Initial estimates
had the impact at $187M, but "sunny weather, a record 107 events
leading up to the game and an attractive matchup" all helped draw
89,000 visitors. According to the study provided by ASU, the
Super Bowl created more than 6,000 jobs, generated state and
local taxes totalling $27.1M, produced $102.1M income for local
families and helped generate 200 inquiries from businesses
considering relocation. Fans spent an average of $306 per day on
food, shopping and lodging. The game was also one of the most
costly to put on, with the NFL, the Host Committee and others
spending $53.5M to stage the game. The study was based on two
surveys of nearly 1,300 non-residents who attended the bowl or
related events. It did not include spending by Arizona residents
and businesses that sponsored various events (ARIZONA REPUBLIC,
5/30).
