THEY'RE NO VELOCI-RAPTORS: TEAM ASKS FOR CONSTRUCTION DELAY

Lawyers for the Raptors have asked the City of Toronto to
delay construction of the team's new arena until September 30,
according to David Israelson of the TORONTO STAR. Citing a
"significant amount" of paperwork, the Raptors believe it could
take until June 30 to complete the deal to buy the 1.62-hectare
site, after which the team will still need time to arrange
financing for the $180M facility. The Raptors incurred a $1M
penalty when construction did not begin last fall and face a
similar fine if work is not started this fall (TORONTO STAR,
5/30).
