CALIFORNIA DREAMING: BUCS FLIRTING WITH CITY OF ANGELS

One day after Buccaneers officials announced they had
reopened talks with Osceola County about building a new stadium
in that area, the sons of team Owner Malcolm Glazer were in L.A.,
reportedly discussing potential sites for their football team,
according to Joe Henderson of the TAMPA TRIBUNE. Team VP's Joel
and Bryan Glazer spoke Thursday with agent Leigh Steinberg, who
has been active in trying to lure an NFL team to Anaheim, and
R.D. Hubbard, who has proposed building a stadium near Hollywood
Park horse racing track by '98. Moving the team out of
Hillsborough County, however, may be a moot issue if county
voters pass a September 3 referendum for a sales tax increase
that would help finance a stadium. Paul Eckles, Inglewood City
Manager: "They've certainly been mentioned as a possible team
for here, but everybody has the general understanding that it
will be very expensive to move them out of Florida." A Bucs
departure would require Glazer to pay $35M to the trust of former
team owner Hugh Culverhouse and NFL owners could add their own
relocation fee (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 5/17).
