     Organizers of The Nuveen Champions Tour confirmed that they
pay appearance fees to the tour's top players.  Co-Founder Ray
Benton would not reveal which players receive payment or how much
they get, but he added it goes to the "top guys."  Benton said
tournaments are guaranteed that either Jimmy Connors or John
McEnroe and Bjorn Borg or Yannick Noah will show (WASHINGTON
POST, 5/8)....Preliminary Kentucky Derby wagering figures totaled
a record $47,387,442 (Churchill Downs)....Two Boston-based
companies, Golf Concepts Inc. and The Hub Sports Group, have put
together the Professional Long Drivers Tour (BOSTON GLOBE, 5/9).
