HEY, EAST RUTHERFORD: IT'S A JUNGLE OUT THERE

Indoor skiing, boating through a simulated rain forest and
virtual mountain biking are just a few of the attractions
unveiled by Tokyo-based Kajima International for a $265M
Meadowlands Entertainment Pavilion. The N.Y. TIMES reports
Kajima's 1.1 million square-foot project would be built between
Giants Stadium and Continental Arena, dwarfing both facilities
and possibly tripling the number of yearly visitors to the
Meadowlands from 3.5 to 10 million. The football field-sized
rain forest is the first piece in a $850M expansion project the
NJSEA has hired Kajima to perform. The forest will be housed in
a 90-foot high atrium which will include four "entertainment
zones" -- sports, nature, electronics and family entertainment.
According to Kajima VP Ezra Mersey, the goal is to "make the
Meadowlands an everyday, everynight attraction." The Pavilion is
expected to open by 2000 (N.Y. TIMES, 5/9).
