CANADIAN BROADCASTERS GRIPE OVER NHL PLAYOFF SCHEDULE

Charles Ohayon, Programming Dir for Radio-Canada, the CBC's
French-language TV network, "blasted" the NHL yesterday for
"bowing to pressure" from Fox and scheduling Canadiens games on
Sunday afternoons. Ohayon: "It's maddening to see Canada's
national sport brushed aside like this. ... We now call it the
American National Hockey League." Ohayon said their viewers are
used to games on Saturday nights, and likely will not stay inside
on Sundays. Canadiens VP/Communications Bernard Brisset: "We're
far from pleased about it, for sure. Hockey on Saturday night is
part of our fans' lives" (CP/Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 4/17).
