OREGON SUPREME COURT MAY SET ASIDE ORDER IN ADIDAS CASE

The OR Supreme Court has told Washington County Circuit
Court Judge Gayle Nachtigal she has until April 19 to defend her
ruling that the newsletter Sporting Goods Intelligence (SGI)
cannot print details about a line of shoes from Adidas America
Inc. without the company's permission, according to the Portland
OREGONIAN. Otherwise, the court will set aside the order.
Attorneys for SGI hoped for dismissal of Nachtigal's order on the
grounds it violated their right of freedom of the press, but they
were still "pleased" with the decision. Adidas America argues
the pertinent issue is not freedom of the press, but the private
sector's ability to protect trade secrets. Supreme Court counsel
said the next step will be to set oral arguments before the Court
next week unless Nachtigal decides to set aside her order (Jeff
Manning, Portland OREGONIAN, 4/12).
