MASTERS OFFICIALS MAINTAIN "VEIL OF SECRECY"

Masters officials held their annual pre-tournament press
conference. The message was familiar, according to Sheeley &
Strauss of the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION: "No significant changes."
Augusta National Chair Jackson Stephens said weekend TV coverage
will be limited to three hours and the back nine. Asked whether
CBS analyst Gary McCord might be allowed to return, Stephens
answered, "Who is that?" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 4/11). In
Orlando, Larry Guest noted the golf reporters present "salute and
support Stephens' right to keep the nuts and bolts a mystery as
long as this luxury auto is humming along, uncompromised by the
usual pressures of commercialism and network TV that corrupt so
many other sporting events" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 4/11).
TRADITION GOES ONLINE: In addition to Masters-related site
listed in yesterday's Web Sites of the Week, it should be noted
that Augusta has its own site at http://www. masters.org, and
that ESPNET's SportsZone has a special Masters area at
http://espnet.sportszone.com (THE DAILY).
