BIG 12 EXTENDS AGREEMENT TO KEEP HOOP TOURNEY IN KANSAS CITY

The Big 12 men's and women's basketball tournaments will be
held in Kansas City through 2000, according to Randy Covitz of
the K.C. STAR. Big 12 Presidents ratified the recommendation of
AD's by adding two years to the original agreement that awarded
K.C. the '97 and '98 tourneys. The '97 women's tournament is
contingent on the city making $4M worth of improvements to
Memorial Auditorium, but the conference will not require the city
to expand Kemper Arena beyond its listed capacity of 17,153 (K.C.
STAR, 4/10).
