WFAN'S GIANTS PURCHASE COULD HAVE THE NETS FARMED OUT

New York's WFAN has made official its purchase of Giants
radio rights from WOR-AM, according to the N.Y. POST's Phil
Mushnick. Under the deal, the Giants will remain on WOR-AM, and
the two stations could be linked in other ways in the future.
Mushnick: "Look for WOR next season to carry WFAN's spillover
broadcasts of Knicks and Rangers games while FAN's current
spillover station, WEVD-AM, becomes the new home of the Nets"
(N.Y. POST, 4/8). CRAIN'S NEW YORK reports the Giants give WFAN
"a virtual lock on radio sports advertising in New York."
Advertisers were "dealing with a heavyweight; now they have to
negotiate with a prize fighter" (CRAIN'S N.Y. BUSINESS, 4/1
issue).
WCBS CUTS: CRAIN'S also reports WCBS-AM, recently purchased
by Westinghouse, is looking to "outsource" its sports coverage
and is considering using Metro Sports or Shadow Broadcasting.
Shadow handles sports coverage for Westinghouse-owned WINS-AM
(CRAIN'S NEW YORK, 4/1 issue).
