     Thirteen of 25 NBA coaches responding to a league survey
make at least $1M a year.  Pat Riley is the highest paid at $3M.
Overall, Eastern coaches earn close to $300,000 more than their
Western counterparts, according to the DALLAS MORNING NEWS.
David Moore also reports the NBPA has hired Spencer-Stewart of
New York to put to together a list of five to six candidates to
become new Exec Dir (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 4/7)....In Orlando, Tim
Povtak examines the effect of expansion.  Magic GM Pat Williams:
"If there was only one McDonald's franchise, it would have the
greatest hamburger ever made, the finest hand-dipped shakes ever
created.  But it probably wouldn't be a real profitable business"
(ORLANDO SENTINEL, 4/9).
     OTHER HOOPS NOTES:  Chicago high school phenom Ronnie Fields
said he is weighing a guaranteed three-year, $3.3M  offer from a
proposed "teenage professional basketball league" (CHICAGO
TRIBUNE, 4/7)....The CBA "is waging a publicity campaign to
dispel its image as a league of long bus rides, lousy hotels,
that feasts on NBA leftovers" (Ailene Voisin, ATLANTA
CONSTITUTION, 4/7).
