PEROT JR. THROWS TEN-GALLON HAT INTO STARS BIDDING

Ross Perot Jr. is involved in "serious negotiations" to buy
the Mavericks from Donald Carter, according to Sunday's FT. WORTH
STAR-TELEGRAM. Perot, who has reportedly "been in the picture a
long time," was a candidate to purchase the Stars last year
before he decided an NHL team did not "fit in with his
investments." Carter's son and team VP, Ron Carter, conceded his
father, who bought the team in '80 for $12M but could sell for an
estimated $125M, is "serious about selling" but will only accept
"a perfect" offer (Richie Witt, FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 4/7).
Meanwhile, Brad Townsend of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS reports there
are at least five other interested parties, and not all are
local. Serious bidders include Stars Owner Tom Hicks and a
corporation or group that would purchase the team and sell a 20%
share to the public (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 4/7).
