IS INFINITY WORKING TO CORNER THE NEW YORK SPORTS MARKET?

     Infinity Broadcasting, owner of New York's WFAN, is
reportedly close to a deal to buy control of WOR-radio's Giants
broadcasts.  Infinity would handle production and ad sales, while
the games would remain on WOR.  The N.Y. POST's Phil Mushnick
cites sources who say Infinity is also interested in radio rights
to the Yankees, whose WABC deal expires after this season.  The
Yankees would also be heard on WOR.  Noting that Infinity is
weighing a purchase of WOR in whole, Mushnick writes that the
company "would have a virtual earlock on local sports" (N.Y.
POST, 3/25).
