GOLF WORLD NEWS: TITLEIST ELIMINATES JOBS IN RESTRUCTURING

Titleist has eliminated positions at its Carlsbad and
Escondido, CA, facilities, in what Acushnet Co. President Wally
Uihlein termed a "restructuring," according to the GSO Pro Report
in GOLF WORLD. Acushnet is the holding company for American
Brands' golf companies -- Titleist, Foot-Joy Worldwide, and Cobra
Golf. Uihlein said the move is consistent with Acushnet's
previously stated plans to grow Cobra's King Cobra irons and
woods and Titleist's DCI irons. Sources close to Titleist say
close to ten jobs will be lost. Uihlein said the restructuring
affects "all departments" in Titleist's equipment division, but
added the company may add jobs in the coming weeks making the net
loss less than that number (Steve Pike, GOLF WORLD, 3/15 issue).
TOMMY ARMOUR GOES INT'L: In an effort to expand its
international business, Tommy Armour Golf named Rick Papreck VP &
GM of its new international business division. Tommy Armour
President Michael Magerman said the move is the first step toward
increasing worldwide sales of Tommy Armour and Odyssey clubs
(Steve Pike, GOLF WORLD, 3/15 issue).
DUNLOP-SLAZENGER SALE: British conglomerate BTR's deal to
sell Dunlop-Slazenger to its senior management was completed
March 9. GOLF WORLD notes it is believed the senior management
group, through CINVen, Europe's second-largest venture capital
firm, paid $477M for Dunlop, which includes Maxfli Golf (GOLF
WORLD, 3/15 issue).
