RECORD SETTING SEAHAWKS DEAL STILL IN HOLDING PATTERN

It could cost Microsoft Co-Founder/Blazers Owner Paul Allen
about $200M to purchase the Seahawks, according to the SEATTLE
POST-INTELLIGENCER. That figure would be $8M more than Malcolm
Glazer paid for the Bucs in '95, in what was then the largest
price ever for an NFL franchise. While there is no deal, Angelo
Bruscas reports the team's value continues to be "held for
ransom" by Owner Ken Behring's threatened move to L.A. Behring
and his partner Ken Hofmann paid $99M for the Seahawks in '88
(SEATTLE P-I, 3/16). Spokespersons for Allen and King County
continue to deny reports an agreement in principle could be
reached this week. Blazers President Bob Whitsitt, who is
negotiating on behalf of Allen, said in order to avoid
involvement in King County litigation and properly prepare for
the '96 season, any deal would need to be struck within the next
two weeks (Rebecca Boren, SEATTLE P-I, 3/16). ESPN noted Behring
has set $225M as the opening price ("SportsCenter," ESPN, 3/15).
