IT'S NOT A SMALL WORLD FOR DISNEY, ANGELS AFTER ALL

"Completely different concepts" of what Anaheim Stadium
should entail have "doomed" Disney's plan to buy 25% of the
Angels, according to Hal Bodley of the USA TODAY. Bodley writes,
although the deadline for an agreement is not until Sunday, "it
seems impossible" anything will happen before then. Disney wants
a state-of-the art, baseball-only stadium, and Anaheim wants to
develop a entertainment/ sports/retail complex. The two sides
have no plans to resume negotiations. Acting MLB Commissioner
Bud Selig: "Obviously, we really want this to happen, we want
Disney to be a part of baseball. I still hope this deal can be
completed." Anaheim official Bret Colson was not so optimistic:
"They pretty much said the deal is dead, and we're taking them at
face value. If they are expecting us to come back with a
significantly sweeter offer, I hope they're not holding their
breath" (USA TODAY, 3/15).
