DIAMONDBACKS BREAK "BARRIER" WITH TICKET PRICES

The Diamondbacks "broke a baseball ticket-price barrier"
when the club announced its best seats will cost $50, according
to the ORLANDO SENTINEL. Along with 900 "premium seats" behind
home plate at $50, the team revealed other prices for the yet-to-
be-completed BankOne Ballpark: 350 dugout-level seats at $45
each; middle level seats from $25-29; most upper deck seats at
$9; and 400 standing-room tickets for $1. D'Backs Owner Jerry
Colangelo: "Yes, we do have premium seats. Every new building
has premium seats. That's for those people who want them."
Colangelo added there will be 17,000 seats under $9. Top ticket
price in the NL is $30 for Marlins club seats; in the AL, it's
$25 for Orioles and A's club seats (AP/ORLANDO SENTINEL, 3/15).
UNCOVERED: The Padres will remove the tarps covering 2,237
upper deck seats behind home plate at Jack Murphy Stadium this
season. The tarps were designed to make the Murph "more
baseball-friendly," but attendance hit a 12-year low last year
(PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 3/15).
