     THE NUMBERS GAME:  Thirty-six teams are going with Nike
footwear, followed by 16 teams in Converse, seven in Reeboks, and
five in Adidas.  Converse gives N.E. Louisiana shoes, but the
company does not count them as a contracted affiliation.
Mississippi Valley State will wear Nike during the tournament,
but they do not have a contract with the company (THE DAILY).
Mississippi Valley State AD Chuck Prophet:  "Whatever the best
deal is we can get from a sporting goods dealer, we'll buy that"
(USA TODAY, 3/12).
