STADIUM NOTES

     The Padres have finalized plans for an auxiliary scoreboard
that will hang on the right field wall at Jack Murphy Stadium,
making the outfield asymmetrical for the first time in the team's
28 year history (L.A. TIMES, 3/10). ....Dick Schaap paid homage
to the Montreal Forum which will host its final game tonight.
Schaap: "If you are a true hockey fan, or a Canadian, especially
a French Canadian, then you know the Forum is the heart of
hockey" ("Sports Weekly," ESPN, 3/10).  The Canadiens will
auction all of the Forum's artifacts Tuesday, including the
team's 24 Stanley Cup banners (USA TODAY, 3/11)....The Oilers are
reportedly negotiating with Vanderbilt Univ. officials about
sharing practice fields if the club moves to TN before the '98
season (TENNESSEAN, 3/8)....Detroit's Downtown Development Agency
awarded Chicago's Axelrod Associates the $600,000 advertising
contract for the stadium referendum drive (DETROIT NEWS,
3/11)....The GA Senate will discuss Tuesday a plan to give the
cities of Atlanta and College Park, GA, the power to levy a 3%
car rental tax to help fund improvements for the new Hawks arena
in downtown Atlanta (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 3/11)....An editorial
in Sunday's Baltimore SUN urges legislators to approve new
stadiums for the Redskins and new Baltimore franchise (Baltimore
SUN, 3/10).
