REMEMBRANCES OF FORMER A'S OWNER CHARLES O. FINLEY

     Charles O. Finley, who owned the A's as well as the NHL's
Golden Seals and Memphis' ABA franchise, died yesterday at the
age of 77.  In Philadelphia, Bill Conlin writes, "Nobody knows
who invented baseball.  But it is clear it was reinvented by a
man of the 21st century named Charles O. Finley" (PHILA. DAILY
NEWS, 2/20).  In S.F., C.W. Nevius writes, "He had more off-beat
ideas, and more of them turned out to be good ones, than the rest
of baseball put together" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 2/20).
