NASCAR STAR JEFF GORDON GOES PUBLIC WITH SMOKELESS STANCE

     NASCAR star Jeff Gordon is appearing in commercials with
South Carolina Attorney General Charlie Condon to combat tobacco
use.  Condon said part of the idea behind the spots "is a way to
stave off the 'heavy hand'" of the FDA.  Condon:  "I'm a big
believer in states' rights.  I was concerned the FDA would
attempt to take control in this area.  We need to do something if
we're going to complain about Washington stepping in"
(AP/INDIANAPOLIS NEWS, 1/27).
