OLYMPIC NOTES

     ACOG will start phone sales of event tickets on February 10,
when tickets to 13 of 14 sports and the Olympic Arts Festival may
be purchased (ACOG)....SLOOC has appointed 11 people to serve on
a "coordination commission" to help prepare for the 2002 Games.
Among those serving: German National Olympic Committee President
Walther Troeger, IOC Secretary General Francoise Zweifel, and IOC
Sports Director Gilbert Feli (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 1/24)....The
U.S. Olympic basketball team has announced its five-game
exhibition tour as follows: July 6 against collegiate all-stars
in Detroit, July 7 in Cleveland, July 10 against China in
Phoenix, July 12 against Australia in Salt Lake City and July 14
against Greece in Indianapolis (DETROIT NEWS, 1/24)....A bill
which would turn over 1,320 acres of federal land to the
Snowbasin Ski Resort in Utah in exchange for land of equal value
is begin held up in the Senate's Energy and Natural Resources
Committee.  The land would be used for construction of an Olympic
ski run (CONGRESS DAILY, 1/24)....ACOG organizers said nearly 90%
of the $1.7B needed to stage the '96 Games has been raised and
that the balance will come in the next five months and during the
Games.  ACOG CEO Billy Payne also said they expect to add several
new sponsors in the coming months, with one new sponsor
announcement expected as soon as today (Athelia Knight,
WASHINGTON POST, 1/25).
