CBA ENDURES TROUBLED TIMES

CBA Commissioner Tom Valdiserri has called for a moratorium
on expansion and formed an "advisory group of financial and
marketing experts from the league's more profitable teams." The
past year has been "especially difficult" for the CBA, with five
teams having folded since the '95 All-Star break: two during the
season last year, two after, and one (the San Diego Wildcards,
formerly of Mexico City) this season. With one team readmitted
under new ownership, the CBA has gone from 16 to 12 teams in a
year. Valdiserri denies rumors one more team will fold by the
end of '96 (Jerry Bonkowski, USA TODAY, 1/25).
