FRANCHISE NOTES

     Oilers officials say they have sold about 40,000 PSLs in TN
toward building a new stadium.  The team has until February 15 to
meet a goal of 44,700 PSLs (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 1/24)....Bill
Cosby has denied all rumors that he is interested in buying the
76ers.  Cosby: "It never crossed my mind" (PHILA. DAILY NEWS,
1/25)....The Mets sold 3,500 individual tickets at five locations
in 45 minutes on Tuesday -- 1,000 more than they sold in the
first full day of sales last year (NEWSDAY, 1/24)....An Oakland
city report recommended that $350,000 from a surcharge on Raiders
tickets should go to public schools for playground repair.  The
staff report goes to full City Council for a decision in two
weeks (S.F. CHRONICLE, 1/25)....At a press conference before the
Oilers-Stars game last night, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said
the Oilers must reverse their attendance slide or face the
prospect of moving (WASHINGTON POST, 1/25)....The USBL announced
an expansion franchise in Tampa Bay for '96.  The team will be
called the Windjammers, with home games at St. Pete's Bayfront
Center (USBL).
