3COM CLEARS HURDLE IN SECURING LONG-TERM NAMING RIGHTS

The S.F. Parks Commission voted unanimously yesterday to
accept a deal worth at least $4M to keep the 3Com name over
Candlestick Park at least through the end of '99, according to
the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. The deal now faces a vote next month
by city supervisors. Despite concerns from Mayor Willie Brown,
commission Chair Jack Immendorf notes the deal is actually worth
$5.5M, as 3Com will pay for signage and agreed to buy $350,000 in
stadium ads each year (Richard Sandoval, SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS,
1/19). MORE S.F.: Opponents of a proposed $225M baseball stadium
for the Giants have begun distributing fliers over concerns about
parking (Michael Dorgan, SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 1/19).
