STADIUM NOTES: KRAFT CRITICIZED IN BOSTON

Patriots Owner Bob Kraft is criticized for a "shoot-
yourself-in-the-foot" letter he sent to MA. Gov. William Weld
critical of failed efforts to build a new, taxpayer-subsidized
stadium in Boston (BOSTON GLOBE, 1/5)....The Tiger Stadium Fan
Club hopes to have an initiative placed on the August ballot in
Detroit to stop the Downtown Development Authority from selling
$40M worth of bonds to build a new Tiger Stadium. As of
Thursday, the Club had 6,000 of 8,107 signatures needed (DETROIT
NEWS, 1/5)....The Hillsborough Sports Commission voted yesterday
to seek a "sports entertainment fee" on all events on TSA
property, including games at the new Ice Palace, city-owned golf
courses, and Yankees spring training games. Officials will need
permission from the FL Legislature before the fee can become law.
TSA officials estimate the fee could generate $4M a year toward a
new stadium for the Bucs (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 1/5)....The Broncos are
considering several sites -- Central Platte Valley, the current
Mile High Stadium site, the old Stapleton Airport and one just
north of Coors Field -- for a new stadium. The Central Platte
Valley site reportedly is also being considered by Ascent
Entertainment as a site for a new arena for the Ascent-owned
Nuggets and Avalanche (AP/Colorado Springs GAZETTE-TELEGRAPH,
1/5).
