MAVERICKS AND STARS OFFICIALS TALK ABOUT NEW ARENA

     Representatives of the Mavericks and Stars met yesterday
with Dallas officials to discuss plans for a new arena, according
to the FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM.  The meeting was characterized as
a "get-acquainted" session in which few specifics were discussed.
Dallas City Manager John Ware said the meeting was positive and
the parties have agreed to meet again March 7 -- at which time
they expect to "do some deal-talking."  One point of contention
did arise when Stars President Jim Lites said new owner Thomas
Hicks wants to be a full partner in the new arena.  In the past,
the city has negotiated only with Mavs Owner Donald Carter.
Carter commented, "I see us listening to them, but the Mavericks
and the Carters, we don't take partners" (Thomas Korosec, FT.
