The Broncos and KUSA announced the signing of the multi-year
deal, making KUSA-Channel 9 the official TV station of the
Broncos. The station will be the Broncos' exclusive official
local TV partner for all non-news programming, including
production of preseason games not shown nationally as well as the
weekly coach's and pregame shows. Terms of the deal were not
disclosed (Broncos).... Nolan Ryan will host a weekly syndicated
outdoors show on Prime Sports, which premieres Sunday (USA TODAY,
1/3).... Doug Flutie, scheduled to be an analyst on CBS' Cotton
Bowl coverage, pulled out for "unspecified reasons." The game
"seemed a natural progression for a budding career in
broadcasting," writes Jack Craig in Boston, but a "late pullout
under anything other than exceptional circumstances is remembered
in television" (BOSTON GLOBE, 12/27)....GM Hughes Electronics
received a FORBES' award for "Most Impressive Product Rollout"
for DirecTV. One year after introduction, DirecTV activated its
millionth subscriber making it "the biggest product launch in
consumer electronics history" (FORBES, 1/1 issue).... Echostar
Communications, the direct-to-home satellite TV company, launched
their first satellite. Echostar shares hit $25, a high for the
year before closing at $24. They will compete against DirecTV
and Primestar (N.Y. TIMES, 12/29)....ESPN has begun promotion of
the fourth annual ESPY awards, which will be given out February
12 at Radio City Music Hall. Tony Danza will host, and General
Motors is the primary sponsor (ESPN)....Foot Locker has added the
'96 NBA All-Star Balloting to its Web site. Fans can vote
worldwide until January 12 on Foot Locker's home page at
"footlocker. com" on MCI's internet World Wide Web2 (Foot
Locker).
