CFL'S DAYS IN THE AMERICAN SOUTHEAST APPEAR TO BE NUMBERED

Neither Memphis Mad Dogs Owner Fred Smith nor Birmingham
Barracudas Owner Art Williams attended yesterday's CFL Board of
Governors meeting in Toronto. Today's TORONTO SUN notes their
absences "set off the early warning signals," as sources say the
clubs will be "sacked today." Williams lost $10M in Birmingham
last season, and has "loudly voiced his displeasure" with the
CFL. He is said to be concentrating on selling the team.
Smith's failure to attend was a surprise, as he excused himself
by stating he had to stay in Memphis as part of a labor dispute
with his company, Federal Express (TORONTO STAR, 11/30).
