S.I. COVER WITH MODELL ON COVER A HOT SELLER IN CLEVELAND

The current issue of Sports Illustrated, with a cover
illustration of Browns Owner Art Modell "slugging a dog-faced
fan," is selling out in the Cleveland area. In fact, one buyer
for a Cleveland-area magazine distributor, reports that SI has
provided more than double the number of extra copies the magazine
sends out for its annual swimsuit issue (Akron BEACON JOURNAL,
11/30). In the cover story, Steve Rushin examines the depth of
the "pain" inflicted on Browns fans by Modell and the attitude of
the city toward him, summed up as: "Screw the man who screwed
it." In an interview, Modell claims to have hit the $50M debt
limit set for each team, with the Browns owing $40M and himself
personally facing $10M in loans (SI, 12/4 issue).
