STADIUM NOTES

An editorial in the DETROIT NEWS notes Lions Owner William
Clay Ford has put Pontiac officials on notice that unless
concessions are made in the current lease, the team may move from
the Silverdome to a Wayne County site. But the paper sees no
reason why Ford and Pontiac "shouldn't be able to work things
out" (DETROIT NEWS, 11/26). As for the Tigers, a poll of 300
Detroit voters conducted last week by Marketing Resource Group
Inc., shows 60% approve of the plan for a new Tiger Stadium,
while 27% disapprove (DETROIT NEWS, 11/26)....Columnist Carl
Hiaasen speculates: "Hiring Pat Riley might be the most
profitable thing the Miami Heat ever did -- not because he'll get
them to the playoffs, but because he'll probably get them a new
publicly funded arena" (MIAMI HERALD, 11/26)....Five Minneapolis
residents have filed a lawsuit claiming that the city's sale of
bonds to buy the Target Center is unconstitutional and should be
stopped (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 11/24)....A poll of 500 Boston
voters, conducted by Marttila & Kiley, shows a split on a
convention center/stadium. Voters favor a megaplex 42-30%, but
when told the state would finance the project, only 32% favor the
whole project (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/26).
