ROOKIE STACK FEELS THE NEED FOR A CLOSE SCHICK SHAVE

76ers rookie Jerry Stackhouse has added Schick to his line
of endorsements, and will serve as a spokesperson for the
company's sponsorship of the 1996 Schick Rookie Game held during
NBA All Star Weekend. Jeff Jensen reports in ADVERTISING AGE
that Stackhouse's latest deal signifies the latest blitz by the
NBA and its sponsors to "invest more dollars pushing the league's
young stars." Jensen writes Stackhouse's many sponsorship deals
should make him "the new season's Most Marketable Rookie."
Jensen suggests many believe the NBA and its sponsors' promotion
of young stars like Stackhouse and last year's Rookie of the Year
Grant Hill is "a calculated effort to buff of some of the tarnish
the league has suffered recently," including Sports Illustrated's
cover story last year which criticized the NBA's young stars as
"spoiled and petulant." Stackhouse presently represents Fila USA
and Fleer/Skybox trading cards (ADVERTISING AGE, 10/30 issue).
