THE NAME GAME II: LETS TRY BYRNE, "BYRNE, BYRNE BO BYRNE...

The Byrne Meadowlands Arena, known to be looking for a
corporate sponsor, will be renamed by January 1, with a deal that
will bring in approximately $3.5M/year over 12 years, according
to Phil Mushnick in this morning's N.Y. POST. Mushnick reports
that American Express, Continental Airlines and AT&T are the
finalists for the arena's naming rights. Mushnick notes that
none of the potential sponsors would agree to keep the Byrne
name, coined for former NJ Governor Brendan Byrne, as part of the
title (N.Y. POST, 10/27).
HOW ABOUT BABY RUTH? Mushnick reports that George
Steinbrenner is "insisting" that he have the right to sell a
corporate tie-in to Yankee Stadium in lease negotiations for
either a new, or renovated ballpark (N.Y. POST, 10/27).
