     Michael Jordan is pictured on the cover of this week's
Sports Illustrated with new teammate, Dennis Rodman marking the
34th time Jordan has appeared on the cover.  Jordan now passes
Muhammad Ali with the most SI cover appearances (SI)....Karl
Malone will debut November 19 as the host of his own TV show, to
be shown nationally on Prime Sports Network.  Malone:  "It's not
going to be all sports. ... It's going to be whatever we want it
to be about" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 10/17)....Dallas-Ft. Worth ranks
last among Nielsen's 33 metered markets in MLB playoff viewing.
In addition, no area radio station has signed up to carry the
World Series (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 10/17)....Monday night's
Raiders-Broncos game drew a 17.7 rating and a 29 share on ABC,
putting MNF's season average at 17.0, down 5% from last year (USA
TODAY, 10/18)....Next season could be the last for the Yankees on
WPIX.  MSG owner ITT has purchased New York's Channel 31 and is
expected to move the 50+ WPIX games there in '97 (Phil Mushnick,
N.Y. POST, 10/18)....CBS shareholders hold a special meeting
November 16 to vote on Westinghouse's $5.5B offer for the network
(DAILY VARIETY, 10/18)....GE posted an 18% rise in third quarter
profit, with some analysts estimating that NBC's earnings were up
20% (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 10/18)....Time Warner posted a $144M
loss for the quarter, with the music arm and WB Network key
contributors (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 10/18)....ABC's November
sweeps lineup includes ABC Sports' Olympic figure-skating
special, "Skates of Gold II" (WASHINGTON POST, 10/18).
