NEW PLAN EMERGES THAT COULD KEEP WARRIORS IN OAKLAND

A new plan emerged yesterday "that gave negotiators hope"
the Warriors would not leave for San Jose, according to Robert
Salladay of the OAKLAND TRIBUNE. Oakland and Alameda County
could now end up building the team a new arena at a cost of at
least $140M and "possibly" paid for by the sale of season-ticket
rights and taxpayer-backed bonds. Salladay reports the new deal
"would be nearly identical" to the deal worked out with the
Raiders this year to renovate the Coliseum. Until yesterday, the
Warriors and Coliseum negotiators have said they wanted to build
their own arena with private financing. Oakland officials said
they would inspect the new proposal "and work through the numbers
to make sure the city and county come out profitable along with
the team" (OAKLAND TRIBUNE, 10/18).
