SE TO DEALS WITH POWERBAR AND SUN MICROSYSTEMS

Steve Young is close to signing endorsement deals for PowerBar
and Sun Microsystems computers, according to Terry Lefton of
BRANDWEEK. The PowerBar deal is reportedly for three years and
in the "low seven figures," while TV spots with Young could be up
by the end of the year. Lefton writes this would "counter
category rival" Met-Rx, which has featured Troy Aikman in its TV
spots for more than a year. With the deal, Young "would eschew
potential millions he might have received from any fast-food
deal, which could conflict with the health position sought by
PowerBar." Young's Sun Microsystems deal is said to "be in the
lower six-figures in cash, plus a larger amount in computer
equipment." Young will make personal and trade show appearances,
while the equipment will be "distributed to schools as a charity
tie-in" (BRANDWEEK, 9/25 issue).
