OWNER AGREES CFL IS DUE FOR A NAME CHANGE

Hamilton Tiger-Cats Owner David Macdonald said yesterday he would
support a name change by the CFL to reflect its North American
makeup, according to this morning's HAMILTON SPECTATOR.
Macdonald is concerned about comments made by some U.S. owners,
and would want more cooperation in exchange for the name change.
Memphis Mad Dogs Owner Fred Smith, who also is Federal Express
CEO, has called for the examination of three-down football in the
wake of poor attendance at the Liberty Bowl. Owners in
Birmingham have expressed similar feelings. Macdonald: "Those
ridiculous statements made in the press are the kiss of death.
It's like Fred Smith saying Federal Express is going to deliver
two days late." Macdonald also calls for expansion to one more
American city to balance the schedule and the appointment of an
American "liaison or representative of high rank" to work with
Commissioner Larry Smith (Hamilton SPECTATOR, 9/27).
