ONES TO MEET WITH OTHER OWNERS TODAY IN WASHINGTON

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones meets with a group of NFL owners and
NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue in Washington, DC, today in what
could be "a possible starting point for a negotiated settlement"
of the lawsuit filed against Jones by the NFL. However, Ed
Werder reports in this morning's DALLAS MORNING NEWS that Jones
says "a counter suit remains a likely alternative." Jones: "It
would be naive of them to think they could file a $300 million
lawsuit and take a free swing at me" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 9/27).
In Houston, Bill Sullivan writes that Jones' counterparts "should
not expect to find a beaten, contrite visitor from Dallas in
their midst." Jones, when asked if the session was scheduled to
see who would blink first: "We're past the blinking part. We're
shooting" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 9/27). Among other owners who are
expected to attend are Denver's Pat Bowlen and Pittsburgh's Dan
Rooney (USA TODAY, 9/27).
