NAMES IN THE NEWS

     MICHAEL JORDAN was the topic of various articles this
weekend.  In Chicago, the success of the Michael Jordan
Foundation's Education Club is examined (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES,
9/24).  In Boston, Peter May reports that Jordan "apparently was
the one who told decertification forces to give up the fight and
accept the vote by the players supporting the union (BOSTON
GLOBE, 9/24)....Cavalier TYRONE HILL is offering to donate $30-
40,000 to save the sports program at Cincinnati's Withrow High
School (WASHINGTON POST, 9/24).... Under the header "Football's
finest failure," HERSCHEL WALKER is examined in the N.Y. TIMES
Sunday Magazine (N.Y. TIMES, 9/24)....LAWRENCE TAYLOR is one of
three men being charged by the SEC of manipulating the stock
price of his former company, All Pro Products (N.Y TIMES,
9/23).... DOMINQUE WILKINS and his new playing career in Greece
was profiled on "CBS This Morning."  Wilkins:  "I think I may
have started something" (CBS, 9/25)....Bob Ryan on PATRICK
EWING's involvement in the NBA labor dispute: "Patrick Ewing had
a principle and he fought for it.  He fought for it with
eloquence and passion.  He lost the battle.  Patrick you did lose
the battle, but a lot of people who knew you when are proud of
you today" ("Sports Reporters," ESPN, 9/24).
