FRANCHISE NOTES: WILL JAGS RETURN TO CHEESE LEAGUE?

     WI Gov. Tommy Thompson met with Jaguars Owner Wayne Weaver
during last night's Packers-Jaguars game in Jacksonville in an
effort to persuade the team to return to Stevens Point, WI, for
training camp.  The club's practice facility in Jacksonville
still has not been completed (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL,
9/25)....Peter Gammons reports that George Brett is trying to put
a group together to buy the Royals (BOSTON GLOBE, 9/24)....In
Miami, hockey writer David Neal predicts the Panthers will leave
after this season (MIAMI HERALD, 9/24)....The Pistons report
season ticket sales are ahead of last year's pace, all 180 suites
have been sold, and that 80% of TV/radio ad time is sold for the
upcoming season (CRAIN'S DETROIT BUSINESS, 9/18 issue).
