JAYS NOT FOR SALE BUT BELGIAN OWNERS MAY WAFFLE WITH MARKET

Belgian brewer Interbrew, S.A., which recently acquired the
Blue Jays in its takeover of Labatt's, will not sell the Toronto
club until after a labor agreement is reached and the team
regains its value. "The Belgians are nothing, if not good
business people," writes Richard Griffin in this morning's
TORONTO STAR. Griffin speculates that President Paul Beeston
will remain with the club and build a group to buy the club in
exchange for a percentage of the team. Beeston would likely keep
Interbrew as a minority owner. Griffin: "The NBA and NFL have
been hugely successful in penetrating the European community with
their licensing and broadcast arms. Baseball is way behind in
that important and monied are of the world" (TORONTO STAR, 9/15).
