FRANCHISE NOTES: KINGS SALE -- A NEVER ENDING STORY

An announcement on the sale of the Kings was expected for
today, but "according to some insiders, negotiations hit a snag"
yesterday, according to this morning's L.A. TIMES. Lisa Dillman
reports a deal is still in the works from an investment group led
by CO billionaire Phillip Anschutz and CA developer Edward Roski.
If that should fail, MCA is still interested (L.A. TIMES,
9/15)....In Houston, John McClain writes not to expect the team
to remain in town for the remainder of its lease, as promised, if
a deal is struck with Nashville. McClain: "Sources say the
Oilers have every intention of moving to Tennessee after this
season, and they hope to do it legally with the blessing of the
city, county and Astrodome USA" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 9/15)....The
City of Oakland and Alameda County will save about $1.1M a year
due to favorable interest rates on the Raiders' bond deal. The
city announced yesterday that the municipalities received a 7.23%
rate, about 3/4 of a percent less than they had anticipated
(OAKLAND TRIBUNE, 9/15)....Pirates Chair Vincent Sarni said
yesterday the club's owners are committed to staying in
Pittsburgh. Sarni made his comments as prospective owner Kevin
McClatchy searched for help from local investors (WASHINGTON
TIMES, 9/15)....MLB owners unanimously approved the $85M sale of
the A's from the Haas family to a group headed by Steve Schott
and Ken Hoffman.... The Devils and the NJSEA agreed to extend the
deadline for 30 days to reach a settlement on a deal to keep the
team from moving from the Meadowlands (BOSTON GLOBE, 9/15).
