ABC READY TO MAKE A BID FOR BASEBALL?

     Phillies President Bill Giles, the chair of MLB's TV
Committee, said that he has been notified that ABC plans to make
an offer to continue carrying MLB games after The Baseball
Network dissolves at the end of this year, according to USA
TODAY.  Hal Bodley reports that the committee is continuing to
"formulate criteria that will be presented to bidders."  The
plan:  Two over-the-air networks, probably two cable nets, and a
demand that all postseason games are on free TV.  NBC and ABC
have exclusive negotiating rights until October 9 (USA TODAY,
9/14).
