     NLRB Chair WILLIAM GOULD attended the game Wednesday in
which Cal Ripken broke Lou Gehrig's consecutive game record.
Gould on his role: "We got peace in baseball.  Had that not
happened, the Ripken streak may have been interrupted."  Gould
was a guest of Orioles Owner PETER ANGELOS (WASHINGTON POST,
9/8)....NANCY KERRIGAN will marry her agent JERRY SOLOMON on
Saturday (USA TODAY, 9/8)....SCOTTIE PIPPEN, JUWAN HOWARD,
Georgetown Head Coach JOHN THOMPSON, and gymnast DOMINIQUE DAWES
will help launch the "No Drug Use" campaign at the White House
Monday (WASHINGTON POST, 9/8). ....Nashville Mayor PHIL BREDESEN
said talks Thursday between Nashville and the Oilers were a
"let's really get down to the numbers kind of negotiation."  But
Oilers Exec VP MIKE MCCLURE downplayed the talks, "These are not
even formal negotiating periods because we don't have our full
crew here. ... They certainly continue to be sincere and
dedicated to what they want to accomplish and we certainly feel
the same way ourselves" (AP/ESPNET, 9/8).
