SAN FRANCISCO COMMISSIONERS APPROVE CANDLESTICK NAME CHANGE

Despite a last-minute "nibble" from Apple Computers, S.F.
Recreation and Parks Commissioners took "only minutes" to approve
a deal selling the naming rights to Candlestick Park to 3Com,
according to the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE. As "3Com Park" signs
go up at the stadium today, the deal gives the city $500,000 for
the first year, and an additional $3.5M if the deal is extended
until the year 2000 (Steve Rubenstein, S.F. CHRONICLE, 9/8).
Herb Caen noted in the CHRONICLE: "Come to think of it, 3Com may
be appropriate for the Giants' powerful box office draw. Judging
by what I glimpsed on the tube, only 3Com to the 'Stick for
Tuesday night's game" (SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE, 9/8).
