FOUR-COUNTY SALES TAX MAY FINANCE MILWAUKEE STADIUM

A four-county sales tax gained support from state
legislators Thursday as an option for paying for a new stadium
for the Brewers, according to the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. WI
state official James Klauser told legislators that by adding
Washington and Ozaukee counties to the areas for a one-tenth-of-
a-cent sales tax increase, it would end the need for the hotel-
motel surtax in Waukesha and Milwaukee counties. This proposal
was presented on the third day of four public hearings on the
proposed new stadium (Steven Walters, MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL,
9/8).
TWINS LIKE WHAT THEY SEE: Sid Hartman writes from the Twin
Cities that Twins VP Jerry Bell thinks Owner Carl Pohlad would be
willing to invest money under the same "circumstances" as
Milwaukee to get a new retractable roof stadium for the Twins
(Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 9/5).
