SEASON TIX FOR LAME-DUCK JETS NOT A HOT ITEM IN WINNIPEG

The Jets, almost certain to move out of Winnipeg after this
season, have seen their season-ticket base drop from 5,700 to
4,200, according to the CANADIAN PRESS. The team hopes that
attendance will not drop to dismal levels this season, and some
experts say it won't. Sports psychologist Cal Botterill predicts
season tickets will remain low, but response for certain games
will be high (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 8/31). In Winnipeg, Stevens
Wild reports a heated mayoral race is generating questions
whether the city should have abandoned the Jets effort earlier in
order to save the taxpayers from funding an estimated C$20-$30M
in team losses this year (WINNIPEG FREE PRESS, 8/31).
