NASCAR SUCCESS PROFILED BY BUSINESS MEDIA

CNBC's "Sports View" examined the business of stock car
racing last night. Sue Herrera opened, "Stock car racing has
been called the fastest growing spectator sport in America, and
deep-pocketed sponsors like Kellog's and McDonald's are jumping
at the chance to cash in on the craze." CNBC's Ceci Rodgers
noted, "Born in the South in the 1920's, stock car racing has
gone mainstream. More than a third of the fans are women and
nearly half have median incomes over $30,000." Rodgers added,
"The sport has been speeding ahead with the number of spectators
growing at a 9% clip for the past ten years ... One secret to
NASCAR's success lies in the unique interwoven relations between
the fans, drivers and sponsors" (CNBC, 8/22).
